Handover Ceremony Held at EMU Board of Trustees

New administration of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Board of Trustees (VYK) has taken the office following a handover ceremony held on Monday, 9 February 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at VYK Meeting Room. The ceremony was attended by former President of VYK Dr. Erdal Özcenk and former members of the Board İsmail Güneş Güneşoğlu and Servet Karabacak, new VYK President Şemi Bora and new Board members Dr. Eyüp Göksü, Anıl İmre, Turan Büyükyılmaz and Özdinç Akdel.

Speaking at the Handover Ceremony, former President of the EMU Board of Trustees, Dr. Erdal Özcenk, noted that since July 2019 they had the privilege and responsibility of serving Eastern Mediterranean University as members of the Board of Trustees. He underlined that this role represented far more than a title; it was a significant and meaningful trust carried on behalf of a long-established institution, thousands of young people, and the nation’s future. Dr. Özcenk stated that their term officially came to an end with the decision published in the Official Gazette on the 4th of February 2026. Throughout their tenure, he explained, they remained committed to ensuring the university’s financial stability, academic strength and institutional continuity, guided by the principles of legality, transparency and corporate responsibility. He highlighted that during the most financially challenging times, the university’s academic and administrative staff demonstrated remarkable dedication and selflessness in supporting their institution. According to Dr. Özcenk, this unwavering commitment reflected a strong sense of belonging, institutional integrity and responsibility toward the future. He extended his congratulations to all EMU employees for their steadfast efforts. In closing, Dr. Özcenk conveyed his best wishes to the newly appointed President and members of the Board of Trustees, stating that they were transferring their responsibilities with pride, clear conscience and the satisfaction of having served Eastern Mediterranean University. He expressed full confidence that, with its distinguished history, qualified human resources and deeply rooted institutional culture, the University remains in capable hands, and concluded by wishing it a bright and prosperous future.

Şemi Bora, the newly appointed President of the EMU Board of Trustees, stated that as of 4 February 2026, he and his team had undertaken the honorable responsibility of serving a long-established and reputable institution such as Eastern Mediterranean University. He extended his gratitude to the previous President and board members for their dedicated service and contributions. Acknowledging the university’s strong legacy and the prestige it has earned over the years, Bora emphasized their determination to further strengthen and elevate this foundation. He affirmed that during their tenure, they would operate in strict adherence to the law and devote all necessary effort to the university’s ongoing growth and development. Expressing confidence in a collaborative, harmonious and results-oriented approach alongside all university staff, Bora noted that shared commitment and decisive steps would pave the way for an even stronger EMU. He concluded by thanking the university community for the trust placed in them.
