EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç Issues a Message on “International Day of Education”

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç issued a message on 24 January – International Day of Education. The message by Prof. Dr. Kılıç reads as follows:

“24 January was officially designated as the International Day of Education following a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on the 3rd of December 2018, with the aim of highlighting the importance of education in fostering peace and development. Education is a powerful force that allows individuals to realize their full potential, shapes the advancement of societies, and lays the groundwork for a sustainable future. According to UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), millions of children and adults worldwide still remain outside the education system and are deprived of their right to education. The International Day of Education serves as a reminder that education is a universal human right and draws global attention to the necessity of ensuring access to high-quality, inclusive, and equitable education for all.

As Eastern Mediterranean University, our essential mission is to cultivate individuals who are committed to scientific inquiry, capable of critical evaluation, respectful of ethical standards, and conscious of their global responsibilities. In a transforming global landscape, education represents more than the dissemination of information; it is a cornerstone of social harmony, justice, and progress.

With this year’s theme, “The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education”, I would like to honor all academics, teachers, and education professionals who dedicate themselves to education, and to express my hope that our students and young people move confidently toward a bright future supported by solid educational foundations.

I hope that the International Day of Education contributes to the creation of a more just, more informed, and more hopeful world for all humanity.”
